Introduction:

The project involved the construction of a five-storey Mental Health Clinic to provide comprehensive and multidisciplinary state-of-the-art Mental Health care in Perth’s south for both overnight and day patients.

Project Description:
  • Chilled and Heating Water system served by Four (4) Heat Pump Chillers able to deliver simultaneous heating and cooling to the facility via dedicated chilled and heating water primary and secondary loops. Systems consisted of Heat pump units. Storage tanks, pumps, reticulation pipework and insulation/cladding.
  • Air handling and fan coil unit air conditioning systems.
  • VRV air conditioning systems.
  • Stairwell pressurisation, zone pressurisation and smoke exhaust systems
  • Kitchen Exhaust systems including make up air and exhaust air mechanical systems.
  • Medical gas piping and plant.
Technical Challenges:

The project encountered many space constraints with service coordination being critical. Close working relationships with various trades enabled pro-active approach to the resolution of service clashes.

Airflow strategies within the wards was critical in order to comply with WA health guidelines and requirements. Commissioning and testing was planned and conducted to successfully deliver airflow gradients to successfully comply with LARU requirements.
