Introduction:

The project comprised of the full replacement of Mechanical Services plant and equipment including new mechanical services switchboards whilst maintaining minimal store disruptions. Project required Jako to replace a redundant built up air handling unit with two (2) new packaged units and supplementary in-ceiling and ceiling cassette Daikin units. Ductwork to the shop floor was entirely replaced with a tight staging plan being the most critical aspect of the project.

Project Description:
  • Two (2) new Actron Hercules 170kW Packaged Units.
  • New back of house and administration daikin air conditioning equipment.
  • New Chicken, Bakery, Dishwasher and Donut hoods and associated ventilation duct and equipment.
  • New supply, return and exhaust air duct serving the store.
Technical Challenges:

The project was undertaken in stages with the store being open to patrons the entire duration. With the store being part of a larger shopping centre, this brought on additional challenges from a logistic and operational perspective.
90% of the works were undertaken afterhours to avoid shop floor disruptions. Being able to maintain desired conditions within the store during the summer months provided a challenge. Construction of a new Mechanical Services switchboard in situ was one of them to avoid loss of power on vital services.
Jako Industries remains a Woolworths preferred Mechanical Contractor and has successfully completed many projects of this type over the 40 or so years. We have been involved in approximately 10 retail store installations over the past 12 months including Coles, Woolworths, Dan Murphy, First Choice, Aldi, JB Hi-Fi and Target to name a few.
