Introduction:

Multiple new and refurbished buildings to serve the emergency department, night stay ward, children’s ward and mental health.

The mechanical installation consisted of 2 new chillers, associated cooling towers, chilled water piping, new boiler and heating water pipework, VRV AC systems and associated mechanical plant serving the new wards.

Project Description:

The key mechanical components of the project consist of the following:

  • 2 new 1 megawatt Trane chillers and associated chilled water piping and pumps
  • 3 off Cooling towers and condenser water piping and pumps
  • 2 off Gas fired boilers
  • 10 off CHW air handling units serving new wards
  • Variable refrigerant volume DX air conditioning systems
  • Ventilation systems
  • Electrical and BMS control system with integration into existing hospital BMS network
Technical Challenges:

Installation of Mechanical Services took place amongst a fully functioning and operating hospital.

Installation of new plant and equipment into existing plant room needed to be coordinated carefully in order not to affect the operation of the operating hospital.

Integration of new equipment and plant control system into existing BMS control network required significant planning and coordination and cooperation across all trades and services.
